The Q1 and Q2 sessions have turned Formula 1 on its head with Force India and Toyota at the front while the more established names such as Red Bull, Brawn and McLaren have been struggling.
Fastest in Q1 was Giancarlo Fisichella, keen to point out his speed at a time when Ferrari is looking for a replacement for the woefully inadequate Luca Badoer, who comes up on the timing screens as “BAD” and sadly lives up to his name. This time Badoer spun out in the dying seconds of Q1 and ended up at the bottom of the table again.
Q2 featured Jarno Trulli in the top spot ahead of Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel. Fisichella was fourth with Nick Heidfeld fifth.
The only explanation was that the field was incredibly close. At the end of Q2, however, out went Sutil, Hamilton, Alonso, Button and Kovalainen, leaving a number of unlikely names in the top 10.
