Felipe Massa will be taking part in a karting event in the next few days and is then expected to travel to Europe where he will begin to work in the Ferrari simulator at Maranello. The aim of the tests is to see whether there is any discernible effects from his accident in Hungary when he was hot on the head by a spring that fell off Rubens Barrichello’s car. Massa isnow training hard to get back to the level of fitness required in Formula 1 and is having constant medical checks to make sure that there are no problems. There are suggestions that the Brazilian might try to return to action before the end of the year, but with only a month to go before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there is not much time available. Ferrari has laready written off this year’s chances and stopped development of the F60 chassis and in Singapore both Kimi Raikkonen and Giancarlo Fisichella were struggling to be competitive. Making a comeback in these circumstances does not make much sense and Massa would probably be much better served if he waited until winter testing begins at which point he can come back without the pressure of a race weekend.

[...] Massa to try Ferrari simulator soon [...]
Actually, Felipe drove a go-kart yesterday for a couple laps before heavy rain started to pour down at the Granja Viana Go-kart circuit. (http://msn.lancenet.com.br/formula-1/noticias/09-09-28/625569.stm?automobilismo-felipe-massa-enfim-volta-a-pilotar-kart)
I believe that event you cited will only take place after the season is over as usual, Joe.
Anyone who does play PC racing games will be interested to know that Ferrari use a build of rFactor for their simulator. I’ve seen videos of Marc Gene commentating on laps of circuits driven using the game on Ferrari’s YouTube channel. I believe Red Bull also use a build of the same game for theirs too.
Not too sure what Williams or McLaren use though, maybe in-house software?
Anyway, it would be good to see Massa come back this season for Abu Dhabi at best. Would be a testament to just how amazing it is that he’s managed to recover so quickly.

Just wanted to say how pleased I am to see Felipe recovering so well. I, and I’m sure many others look forward to seeing him back in an F1 car as soon as possible. Forza Felipe!
Hey Joe,
That’s not fair to say “when he was hot on the head ” Felipe isn’t hot headed.
