Now that is the way to propose…

November 1, 2009 by Joe Saward

Brawn GP chef Dave Freeman is a pal of mine. Ten years ago Mike Doodson and I started the “Honda Qualifying Lunch Club” at the Honda motorhome with “Lord Freeman” and his staff joining in the fun, which included spectacular bets about who would end up where on the grid. This event died out this year after Honda decided to withdraw from F1 but David went on to work at Brawn along with the famous Ned Kelley (Yes, he really is called that). Alas the cutbacks meant that David’s fiancee Fatna Laachi, who worked with the team in Honda days, was not at the races this year but His Lordship, who doubles as the pitboard man at Brawn during the races, decided to use the moment to deliver a special message to his beloved at home in Spain.

The answer, by the way, was “Yes”.

So the chef doubles as a pitboard holder? Interesting cost-saving idea.

Congrats to the couple, although if I ever propose to someone, I’d rather do it face to face rather than on a TV screen from halfway across the world (well not quite, but the proposal probably went up and down a satellite’s distance before making it to her).

Shame James Corden made such of an ass of himself to detract from the proposal. It was such a sweet idea.
