The new Sauber C29

January 31, 2010 by Joe Saward

BMW Sauber has presented its new Ferrari-engined C29 in Valencia. The car is the first since BMW decided to leave the sport and the car is currently lacking any sponsorship. The new livery is white with dark sidepods. It will be driven this year by Kamui Kobayashi and Pedro de la Rosa, both of whom are understood to have the support of financial backers. The car follows the current trend with a flat chisel nose and has some of the same rear bodywork that has been seen on the new McLaren. There is also a double diffuser at the rear, as is now the case with all the cars. The car will start testing tomorrow.

“The technical preparation of the 2010 car has continued uninterrupted and according to plan since the spring of 2009, despite all the turmoil,” said team boss Peter Sauber. “We have a long tradition of bringing together an up-and-coming youngster and an experienced campaigner as a driver combination – and it’s an approach that has brought us a lot of success. Pedro has been working at the highest level technically for many years and for a top team, and we can benefit as a team from this experience. Young Kamui also has a lot to offer us, and last year he impressed me particularly in Abu Dhabi.”

The team will be run this year by new managing director Monisha Kaltenborn (38), below:

The cars start to look more like in the 80′s and 90′s, you can guess them by the nose and radiators.
It’s cool, now sort out the wings to have beautiful cars!

What about the Nespresso deal you mooted a few weeks ago? Any more on that?

The car looks really good – much more detail in the design than has been in the past. Pity the effort is all wasted with their driver selection.

Apologies if this is a stupid question but what exactly does a F1 team managing director actually do?
