Q2: Webber goes top. Schumacher and Button out »

Vettel ahead in Q1

July 31, 2010 by Joe Saward

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time of the Q1 session in Hungary, with a lap of 1m20.417s, beating his team-mate Mark Webber by a healthy margin. The Australian could probably have gone faster as he was just a couple of hundredths ahead of Robert Kubica’s Renault.

Nico Rosberg was fourth quickest for Mercedes with the two Ferraris fifth and sixth, the pair split by two hundredths of a second. They were shadowed by the two McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, again very close together, while the two Williams F1 drivers were ninth and 11th, split by Vitaly Petrov in the second Renault. Rubens Barrichello was the faster of the two Williams drivers, a tenth quicker than Nico Hulkenberg. Tonio Liuzzi was next up for Force India, ahead of Michael Schumacher, Pedro de la Rosa and the two Toro Rossos.

Out went Kamui Kobayashi after a disappointing run for Sauber, while Adrian Sutil scraped in by a couple of tenths. Of the new teams it was Timo Glock who was fastest in the Virgin, ahead of the two Lotuses and Lucas di Grassi.
