Sauber backed by NEC

February 28, 2011 by Joe Saward

Sauber has appeared with NEC branding, although the team has yet to make any official announcement of the deal. This would tend to suggest that it is a B2B deal with one of the team’s other sponsors, rather than a major sponsorship in itself. It makes a lot of sense for Japan’s NEC to be associated with Kamui Kobayashi, but it is more likely that the deal is linked to the team’s association with Telmex, as NEC is a major provider of communications services.

Interesting line of thought Joe. I saw those pictures on the car and overalls running in Mexico.

I guess this is what that Sauber club is about, having companies meet in the paddock and get something to rub off.

Anyone got a clue about the “Darthvader with antennea” (as I saw it called) on the sidepods. Is that Telmex or some new company as well?

I learnt, that the “Darthvader with antennae” is the Logo of APASCO, which is a mexican subsidiary of HOLCIM which is a Swiss construction material company (thanks for telling me Checo).

Seems to be another one of the club. Good to see there might be some serious

    Joe,

this is a rather relevant link, also:

NEC aren’t exactly out of the supercomputer game, just playing it very quiet.

Anything is good at the moment. It guts me to see teams like Williams and Sauber scratching around for pennies.

    BasCB

there just be some jokes to be had from HOLCIM!

but on the subject of conglomerates (awful pun) where is Brown, Boveri & Cie? They once had a lovely Chief.

    Or Pictet et. Cie?

I think they like motor cars.

Peter Sauber has a rich (not meaning money) potential for local sponsors. I just think he likes to go his own way. Tough man, have to admire him.

But there does seem to be a big crowd piling in, recognising, tentatively, belatedly even, what a audience we got here.

More Please! Kobayashi is just too good to watch.

Any idea why Kobayashi doesn’t seem to bring any sponsors? He is exciting to watch, the Japanese love F1… is the economy really that bad over there or does he just have a bad agent?

As a Williams fan, I am very happy for Peter Sauber the other privateer on the grid. Its good to see how Monisha Kaltenborn has done a great job ever since she has joined Sauber to forge alliance with new partner. I wish she was in Williams instead of Adam Parr.
Its interesting to see, that a team like Sauber that has always been in mid-field/lower rungs of F1 through their history has attracted chain of sponsors in this economy, while on other hand, WilliamsF1 a team that can boast glorious past cannot attract sponsors from diverse fields.

Are Adam Parr and Sam Michael the right people to lead WilliamsF1 to a secure and better future???

@Leo – Last I have heard KK is neither managed by Wily Weber nor by Flavio ;-)
His not being managed by Wily might be another reason why he is in racing seat and not 3rd driver :)

I read that some of the sponsors that Sauber had in Guadalajara were only one-day sponsors, so it will be interesting to see if NEC is there come Melbourne.

Sauber struck gold with Perez and Gutierrez in more sense than one…

First of all the sponsorship with Telmex has BIG legs. The Bigger name here is “Carlos Slim” -richest man alive, who owns telmex as well as Carso global Telecom.

Carso Global Telecom is the holder of America Mobil..and America Mobil owns Claro (prominently displayed) who is the biggest cell provider in south america as well as Telcel (biggest cell provider in mexico)…In short Carlos Slim is displaying all his “brands”…

Second, you have Cholula Sauce, Tequila cuervo…both mexican and then Holcim which is swiss but displaying its mexican (as well as latin american) cement brand…makes sense.

Nec mexico also came along, but as you said in partnership with Japanese interest…I wonder if all this mexican money should be considered “pennies” …not really…just think about it…the richest man alive backing up your project. Woudn’t you like that?
