Delhi: Day 1 »

Up, up and away…

October 26, 2011 by Joe Saward

I’m sitting in my favourite lounge in Paris. The incoming plane caused much excitement in the airport as it was carrying the recently-defeated French rugby team home from New Zealand. As we are nearing the end of the year I decided to upgrade myself, using my Emirates air miles. There are some values in travelling as much as we do.

Next stop Delhi, by way of Dubai… It will certainly be interesting.

One day you’ll get to a race destination and open your suitcase to find me inside. It would have been this race had I not been mid house sale.

Not jealous, in any way, at all, nope!

Safe travels…can’t wait to hear your impressions of the new circuit!

Well Joe, I sure do hope I run into you this weekend at the track. That would be awesome and make up somewhat for not having an Evening with Joe!

Here’s hoping that a non-grandstand ticket will allow that.

Have a great trip. I watched Red Bull’s virtual tour of the circuit, and the track certainly looks interesting!

Don’t drink the tap water – guess that means it’ll have to be something from the bar!

Looking forward to reading your impressions on how the Buddh Circuit has scrubbed up for its first Grand Prix.

Maybe you should have a contest to guess how many air miles you’ll fly this year, with the prize being an autographed boarding pass …

As I am suppng on a scotch, sadly only cheap stuff a thought crossed my mind Joe, if it was easier to get a Visa would it have made you more inclined to go to India earlier and spend a bit of your hard earned on checking the place out a bit more?

    Hello Joe,

Being an Indian, I hope you have a really great time in India. Please ignore the administrative hassles, and the fact that media centre has no view of the track.

Are you staying there beyond the weekend ?

Did we ever get that travelogue from the inside of business class on the new airbus?

Dear Joe, have a great time in India! I hope you’ll be able to soak in a bit of the intense life of Delhi. That will be an awesome journey and hopefully a great GP. As always, looking very much forward to your brilliant stories!

Joe, I hope you don’t mind me asking, do you actually get something in return from Emirates by mentioning them on your posts? Presumably it’s your blog and you can do what you want, but some blog readers feel it’s deceptive to be promoting things on your blog for money without fully disclosing it.

  22. on October 29, 2011 at 13:58 Josh

Louis, Joe is a professional and highly moral (look at his thoughts about Vijay Mallya), and as such would announce something like that, he’s no hypocrite…

If one is happy with their service, why not talk them up? If he got screwed around, he’d mention it (and has, but not Emirates).
