The FIA and the FIA Institute have published an updated Driver’s Guide to Safer Motor Sport. The Guide aims to both educate younger drivers and remind the more experienced competitors about all aspects of safety. The Guide, which available online by clicking here, provides information and advice on every area of driver preparation and practice. It includes practical tips on how to prepare before a competition event and an overview of safety features such as driver equipment and in-car protection. It also gives important advice on what to do in case an accident happens, as well as useful information on hydration and diet.
“This Guide aims to minimise the risks and help drivers enjoy their motor sport as safely as possible,” says FIA Institute President Professor Sid Watkins. “It is intended primarily for newcomers to the sport although it is hoped that it will also act as a memory-jogger for the more experienced.”

1. Make sure you have a happy bubble around you, family, friends, girlfriend that sort of thing – otherwise you’ll crash into someone every race.
Thanks for the update Joe.
Just had a cursory look at the Guide. Actually, I think its not a bad idea to have a look at those guidelines for any driver, not just a racing driver (although its not compulsory to have non-flammable underwear, buying a bit of quality that will fit better does make sense
).
Or indeed for most sports one would want to practice – just thinking about everyone going to do some wintersports this season -
….alternatively titled: How not to drive “like the monkeys at the back” . #:)
Joe: thanks for that. This kind of off-the-beaten-path coverage is part of what makes your blog so special.
Chris D: funny.
