Toto Wolff gets a bigger job at Williams

July 24, 2012 by Joe Saward

Toto Wolff has become an Executive Director of Williams Grand Prix Holdings PLC with immediate effect, stepping up his role within the company from that of Non-Executive Director. In his new role Toto will assist and support Sir Frank Williams in his continuing position as Team Principal.

As a shareholder in and Executive Director of Williams Grand Prix Holdings PLC, Toto will work closely with Sir Frank Williams, each being a long term and committed shareholder of the business.

While it is clear that the team has needed a new day-to-day figure to replace Adam Parr, it is not clear just how much Wolff will be doing. He owns only around 16 percent of the shares, compared to Williams’s 50.3 percent and has other businesses that keep him busy, so it remains to be seen whether or not he will do more than be a front man at races.

“Toto’s new role, working closely alongside myself, is about Williams looking forward and managing the successful running of the company. I am looking forward to our new working relationship and I have every belief that this partnership will help take Williams F1 from strength to strength,” Williams said.

I imagine he will continue to exercise no influence whatseoever over choice of ‘test’ driver, obviously…

She might be a bit more diplomatic (and better for the team image) than one of the current regular drivers!

I wonder if they’ll reconsider after the Marussia accident…

Joe, what is your view on Adam Parr, and the reasons why he left?

    • on July 24, 2012 at 10:50 am Joe Saward

The team chose Bernie Ecclestone over him.

Succession planning. Bit late but a wise move nonetheless.

Does make you wonder who could fill the gap that Williams need plugging. Joe, do you have any insight into the rumours from several years ago that Dave Pitchforth (ex Jaguar) was up for a job at Williams? Alawys struck me he would have worked well there.

    • on July 24, 2012 at 4:11 pm Joe Saward

I think that Pitchforth would have been a very good choice. Obviously the folk at Williams think otherwise. It is their company to do with as they please.

What are the chances of Toto Wolff taking over the team entirely one day soon? From Walter Wolf to Toto Wolff…

I did wonder that until Ms Williams was promoted….is she now the heiress apparent?

A little of topic but have you heard anything regarding the recovery of the mechanic that was burned badly in the fire at Williams. My thoughts are still with him and his family. Thanks

Yes, I believe he was at the British GP.

Does this mean if I buy a few shares in the company I can get a job? :)
