Woking woken

July 28, 2012 by Joe Saward

McLaren signalled a return to form in Budapest with Lewis Hamilton taking pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, four-tenths of a second ahead of Lotus’s Romain Grosjean. The Frenchman bumped Sebastian Vettel down to third, but he was still ahead of Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen. The Ferraris were sixth and seventh, with Fernando Alonso just ahead of Felipe Massa with the two Williamses eighth and ninth, with Pastor Maldonado ahead of Bruno Senna. Nico Hulkenberg completed the top 10.

The single lap performance of McLaren has looked pretty good from day-1 at Jerez; it is what will happens over the full race distance that is their Achilles heel. Woking 10 – Sam Michael O

    Good luck Lewis.

Kind of an “expected but weird” line-up for tomorrow…let’s wait for the weather now to complete the scenario…

What a great grid ! Can’t wait to see the first 10 tomorrow on telly. Apart a couple of strange things we have two Maclarens, Two Lotuses, two Ferraris and two Williams. Sounds like I’m old? Who cares ? Fantastic ! All the big brands are there. Will Red Bull become a brand? Is it a brand already ? They doing all the right moves But the name…. It seems odd to say in awe “Redbull !!”

Whatever happens in the race, we have a whole F1 free month looming. Well earned for some, I’m sure. Joe are you planning to shut down for august?

I’m hoping to use the time to wean my 7 yr old off repeating DC’s commentating for weeks after. I’m trying to stop him saying “Paul di Resta’ and “Maldonado’ in DC’s scotch accent, every few minutes. I’ve tried holding him underwater for long periods. I could ban the bbc, but there’s McNish on sky..

    I wonder.
Is this a return to form or just that Lewis has always been exceptional around the Hungaroring?
After all, it’s not Button that is sitting 2nd on the grid, as in Australia and Malaysia

I read that this morning, couldn’t stop laughing! Hell freezing over makes more sense.

I like him, but Kimi Raikkonen simply doesn’t deserve to ever sit in a Ferrari again.

Even if his driving form did justify it, which it currently does not.

His apathetic approach to driving for Ferrari was highly disrespectful for their history, and they were right to boot him out.

      Well done Monty!

      Ignore the screaming jessies.

Now Kimi, prove your mettle amongst the lower ranked Teams, and maybe, just maybe you might get a second nibble of the McLaren cherry.

Just sober up, and grow up Lad.

I think just the opposite…If it wasn’t for Kimi, Ferrari would have been still waiting to be champions again since 2004…..that is 8 years. Kimi in Ferrari is not feasible because I think that Alonso has – as I like to call it- the “Fernando is faster than you” clause in his contract….

I’ve been saying for over a year now: The Other Finn to Ferrari! It has to happen.
