Alonso wins Madonna

January 18, 2013 by Joe Saward

Fernando Alonso won the kart race on the frozen lake at Madonna di Campiglio, despite being knocked into a spin at the first corner of the first event by his team mate Felipe Massa. He fought through the field and won the heat by bumping Ducati rider Nicky Hayden out of the way.

“I always knew he was a dirty dawg,” joked the Kentuckian later.

The grid for the second heat was the reverse of the finishing order of Heat 1 so Alonso started eighth and then raced his way through the field to win with Giancarlo Fisichella grabbing second while Felipe Massa fought back after an early incident to finish third.

Much fun was had by all.

Ah, Giancarlo Fisichela. One wonders what might have happened to him if he’d stayed with Force India back in 2009. Another couple of years, maybe, as an F1 driver. He might have seen a few points finishes, a podium even. Who knows? But Ferrari lured him into total oblivion. One ride in the 2009 Ferrari did for old Fisi. I’m glad he’s alive and well.

He has been very successful in GT racing.

Sounds like it is staged, results and all to inject some confidence into Alonso. And good promotion never hurts. Just like Jules Bianchi of all people winning the Massa kart race in Brazil. The same Bianchi Ferrari is eager to get a race seat at Force India ! They probable lerned from the positive propaganda Grosjean generated for himself when he was confirmed for Lotus next year right after he won the race of champions.

Lets face it the outcome of these charity and fun events is largely irrelevant so why not make the most of them by having the “right” winner.

      It was not staged.

I think tobler was being tongue in cheek. Well, assuming that the case, I got a giggle. My reading was as a satire – the satire being “oh, Poor Fernando”, reflecting inversely all the flack FA’s had lately for silly reasons, and so the counter to that being a silly imaginary artificial ego boost for him, which is not needed – until the last two sentences which seem tacked on to indirectly “validate” the impression of serious thought. If there’s any truth in my random guess, my proverbial “upvote” for humorous trolling. If not, it highlighted a thought about FA for me.

Yeah, yeah, reading too much into things, this morning. But the FA stories abroad the various outlets lately have been pure pantomime.

Nice cameo appearance in Ferrari’s “Racing News” video!
