Love the blog Joe, please keep up the good work. I count on your blog as a source of truth in the sometimes confusing world of F1.
I must also thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do the call ins with the Sidepodcast crew. I enjoy those discussions very much.
Hope you enjoy Malaysia, I know I am looking forward to it. This season is shaping up to be a real cracker right from the get go.
Cheers
Gord
Hi Joe, I stumbled on your blog after hearing your first interview with the Sidepodcast crew. I really enjoyed that conversation and I’m glad you’ve continued to call Christine and “Me”–It has been a treat to hear a voice from the paddock. Your blog has become a must read and I just wanted to say “thank you” and please keep it up. I’ve really enjoyed reading it!
thanks,
Sant
Tell us about your time in Edinburgh – and I’d be really grateful for a copy of that programme you wrote about years ago – ‘The Importance of Being Varnished’ !!
Joe you may need a space for story ideas and leads – I’m sure we out there would love to speculate.
I’ve been thinking – what is Button going to do at the end of the season? Even if he’s lucky enough to hold on to win, the team is unlikely to be a top team over the longer term? If I were him I’d been looking around for a top seat for next year.. what is his position?
Brett.
[...] actually make that order, nor would a driver willingly crash into a wall. Also, as Joe Saward (the first News Editor of Bernie Eccelstone’s F1 magazine) mentioned on his blog, “In all probability Piquet just screwed up – he has done that a lot [...]
I’m another one to find you via your Sidepodcast fireside chats. Those chats are golden. Please keep it up.
Cheers,

Great blog Joe, almost as good as being there…
Keep up the great work and many thanks, on behalf of all armchair GP fans, for sharing your wisdom, insight and humour.
See you soon (hopefully when Vatanen takes over the FIA!),
Leo Sayer
Hello Joe, I discovered your blog after hearing your chats with sidepodcast, they are great, fascinating to hear an insiders view of the paddock, also have signed up to Grand Prix Plus which is a life saver, the archive gets me through those tedious days at the office. Please keep them coming!
Count me as another who found this blog after listening to your chats on Sidepodcast. Now I’m a daily visitor and love hearing about life on the road as well as the actual F1 discussion.
Thanks for all your hard work
Steve
I loved your book, “GP Saboteurs” and so did the Mrs. And, I love.. LOVE your blog, I only wish I had found it sooner. Thanks.
Fantastic blog… Not sure where I will go for some quality writing about the “blinkered” world of Formula 1 if you decide to sheath your pen er.. laptop.
Also wanted to confirm if the Ferrari early-termination-clause of Raikkonen stipulates that he will receive the whole amount only if he does not race in 2010.
LOVED the California pictures. Little rewards for the stress you go through for the whole season and beyond.
an aside with joe is the best
Joe,
it was no one else but Patrick Tambay who recommended me your blog at a function where he held a presentation in Switzerland. We stood around with some champagne after it and talked F1 when he said that his favourite source, that is to his knowledge the “best informed source of the circus” (quote Tambay) would be Joe Saward…
I appreciate his tip on a daily basis since. Keep up the good work!
Chris
Joe
I always liked your work from the early days on Autosport, much more than their other Mansell – hounding writer.
I am puzzled by the manner in which Brawn lost both of this year’s drivers. Rubens was pensioned off quietly and Jenson did not attend the home town event with the team long before he signed at McLaren.
This is all puzzling in view of the financial importance of the Constructors championship where a strong pairing really matters. Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren are all really strong for 2010. What did happen Joe? Is it really that we “broke up but are still good friends”
kindest regards
CJD
Colin D,
I think that the team did not mind seeing Rubens go a it expected to keep Jenson. I think the plan was Jenson-Rosberg. Things went off the rails when Jenson decided to go to McLaren.
Hi Joe, It’s December and all I hear of USF1 is crickets…..no drivers (either rookies or old hands), no real comms, will they actually make it? Cheers, Murray
Hi Joe, I really admire your dedication and insight into F1. Sometimes your opinions are different to mine and it’s great to hear them communicated in a very convincing way.
I was wondering how you became an F1 journalist? What kind of qualifications do you have, if any, and for someone interested in taking the same path as you did, what advice can you give? I’d love to share my knowledge of F1 with the world, but it seems very difficult to get noticed. Any tips would be super.
Joe,
I know it was nearly a month ago, but your points on the ‘Thieving’ blog post were very relevant. Towards the end, it was clear you’d gotten frustrated by the infantile and unwarranted attacks on your work and opinions.
I just wanted to let you know once again how glad I am I found your blog among the many thousands of others out there. While I’m unable to subscribe to your publications at this time, I hope you can appreciate that I would gladly contribute to your work, as your knowledge and understanding of this sport have enlightened myself and a great many others. From your appearances on sidepodcast to your sometimes rather revealing personal takes from your travels, you open up a world many of us can never hope to be involved in, in any detail, outside of being a passionate fan.
Since you’ve since posted new material, I assume you realized how valuable your work is to many of us out here, and I hope to have to opportunity to keep reading, at the very least, the items you feel are worthy of sharing via your free content and your work through other fan-based outlets. I’ve seen snippets of your paid publications and am quite impressed. Don’t let the poorly-worded jabs of ill-wishers take your passion from you.
Keep up the excellent work. We can only hope others in your industry hold themselves to the same standards. And if they don’t, well, it’s their loss, as I’ll support you even more.
