The afternoon rains in Singapore left the track damp when F1 practice began on Thursday evening and the times in the session ended up being decided mainly on who was on the track at what point. Fastest in the session was Mark Webber in his Red Bull, a tenth faster than Michael Schumacher’s Mercedes. It remains to be seen if this is a real representation of what the German can do. Adrian Sutil was third in his Force India, ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Jaime Alguersuari in the Toro Rosso and Tonio Liuzzi in the second Force India. Then came Sebastien Buemi in his Toro Rosso. Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov were ninth and 10th ahead of Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari, Kamui Kobayashi in his Sauber, who has new team-mate Nick Heidfeld right behind him. Nico Rosberg was 14th ahead of Heikki Kovalainen’s Lotus, the two Williams-Cosworths of Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg, Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Timo Glock and Jérome d’Ambrosio in the Virgins, Bruno Senna and Christian Klien in the HRTs and Fairuz Fauzy in the second Lotus.
The times in the second session may be rather different…
Was there much spray and if so, how did it affect visibility?
