McLaren has created a special T-shirt to remember John Button, Jenson father, who died in January. John was Jenson’s biggest fan and his principal guide that took his career from karting to the Formula 1 World Championship. For Silverstone, McLaren is encouraging fans to “go pink”, the colour of John’s traditional race-day “lucky shirt” – and to buy a PinkforPapa T-shirt to show their appreciation for John. The purchase will also benefit Jenson’s preferred charity – the Henry Surtees Foundation, which was set up by John Surtees in memory of his son Henry, to assist and support people with injuries caused by accidents, injuries, and provide resources and assistance for young people to develop their skills.
“We want to turn Silverstone pink to commemorate John, and to support the Henry Surtees Foundation,” Jenson said.
