The Mercedes GP Petronas team has had its first day of running with its 2015 specification F1 W06 Hybrid, during a promotional run. Despite icy conditions at Silverstone the new car was driven by Nico Rosberg and then by Lewis Hamilton but they managed only 18 laps before snow stopped the running. The car will be seen in Jerez on Sunday.
It’s probably faster in the snow than 1/2 the grid in the dry.
Feelers? Can someone tell me what they are for?
I thought we were going to see a “chrome-like” finish on the Mercs this year?
In fact I assumed that’s why McLaren went away from their liquid silver look for 2015.
If it ain’t broke,…
Joe, are those two pipes sticking up and away part of the car, some testing tool – or just a way to refresh the air around Nico’s feet?
Do you mean the camera mounts? They were there last year, too.
The Mercedes AMG Petronas Hybrid Black Flat Bull 2015?
Snow at Silverstone today, now I remember why I moved to Florida from Northamptonshire!
You are a sink hole fan?
Yeah, but now you live in Florida! You obviously didn’t think it through.
Just what I thought when I read that comment, too 🙂
Very sleek.
What’s going on at the top of the sidepods?
Overall I think Mercedes had the best looking car last year and Red Bull wasn’t that bad either. I’m referring to the aero.
Last year the Merc’s nose looked all ‘bulldozer’ business meaning it will bulldoze anyone out of the way to win. Compare to that this year it seems more like a scalpel ready to slice its way through.
Generally the paint-scheme looks good although I think they could’ve done without the black on the top.
It is also interesting to see how short this nose is compared to the McLaren. Wasn’t Merc’s nose the shortest last year as well?
Makes you wonder if McLaren is hoping to put its nose where it doesn’t (or rather does) belong, at the front?
We had some heavy snow showers in Northants today, but despite it being bitterly cold it didn’t settle.
The 2015 Mercedes car looks sleeker if that’s the right expression, but it must have been a bit ‘Brass Monkey’ in that cockpit! Credit to Mercedes for getting it out there in between the bad weather periods.
How long before the FIA bans those funny little canard wings above the forward suspension?
The FIA mandated those wings. Those are the camera mounts as I recall
Well I’ve frozen, baked and been infested with barley flies at Silverstone, (back when our GP was at the correct time of year) one thing we can always rely on is the British weather. I wonder if when you are as good as the Lewis and Nico you have time to notice the cold as you are driving. Not too often they might wish for a heater in the cockpit.
Looks much as expected really, except for the odd impression of the pair of handlebars on the nose. (Strange image of Lewis lying along the top driving like a MotoGP machine, no I’m not drunk, but it seems like a good idea!)
Not much of sponsorship here either…hello Mr E?
This year’s cars look so much better – so far. Looking forward to Ferrari’s contribution (can’t be worse than last year?).
Joe would this take up one of their allocated filming days?
Yes
Lewis managed to cram that new ‘do’ of his into a helmet? Back to the drawing board on the celebrity break through.
The complexity of that front wing.. wow.
Those guys in Brackley just won’t give up on the Dumbo Wings.
Uh-oh, this looks better than last year, and pretty cars tend to be the fastest…
I’m not saying current F1 cars are too quiet, but I was at a conference in the wing all day thursday- 10 yards from the track and I had no idea Merc were testing. Was gutted when I got home and found out.
