Nico Hulkenberg joined the Porsche factory sports car team for the Le Mans 24 Hours, alongside Briton Nick Tandy and New Zealander Earl Bamber. They were followed home by the second Porsche of Mark Webber, Brendan Hartley and Timo Bernhard, with the Audi of Marcel Fassler, André Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer. The LMP2 Class was won by the ORECA-Nissan of Matt Howson, Richard Bradley and Nicolas Lapierre, with the GTE-Pro Class won by Chevrolet, with the Corvette of Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Jordan Taylor.
Hulkenberg joins a select group of drivers who have won the race at their first attempt, (along with Bamber) the first newcomers to win since Laurent Aiello in 1998.
It was Porsche’s 17th victory, the first since 1998.
