There is already a Monaco/SIN so why would the powers-that-be shift it from Melbourne? Although a circuit under the Bridge, around Circular Quay & the Rocks to the Opera House would look incredible on TV. Mind you, the city finds New Years Eve a logistical nightmare and that’s a one-day event! Sydney GP? Tosh!
Sydney or the Gold Coast… every year the same stories – one or the other. Wishful thinking by tourism boards, and media beat up for the F1 unfriendly. Melbourne is such a great venue – so close to the city, excellent hospitality, excellent transport links, open and green. A (street) race in Sydney or the Gold Coast would be chaos. The street race on the Gold Coast for the V8s is ridiculous enough.
Even if this was not fantasy it would be a terrible idea.I live in Sydney and have been to every Grand Prix in Melbourne.Albert Park is a fantastic venue.Every venue proposed for Sydney has been so inferior in comparison it would be a disaster.
Ridiculous idea and I know who is promoting it for her own benefit. I would love to see a Sydney Rocks area GP but Sydney could not take the total shutdown required for several weeks. Leave it at Albert Park or, better still, take it back to Victoria Park!
In Melbourne we call this the annual pantomime: ‘Look out, Sydney’s after our race!’ In fact, Melbourne’s ticket sales and sponsorship dollars have dropped decade on decade so they fall back on the same media plan each year.
These memes are accepted by the media without any fact checking. Next week will probably be the unknown model who will be the ‘ambassador’ then a mini drama on the sexiness of the grid girl uniforms.
Joe, you could get a sinecure working for these guys as you actually know a thing or two.
