A nice touch

I know that no-one uses snail mail much these days, but now and then things turn up in the mailbox or the doorbell rings if the post lady cannot fit something in the mailbox. I don’t know if it is the pandemic or perhaps Brexit, but the last few weeks have seen post from Britain to France taking up to a month to get across the English Channel. So it was pure serendipity that as I was sorting out the first pictures of the new Mercedes, the doorbell went and I scrambled about trying to find a mask, while quietly cursing the timing.

But, in the end I was happy, as the package came from Brackley, and included a Mercedes cap signed by Valtteri, a Lewis Hamilton limited edition scale model helmet, a pen, a bottle of Ineos sanitiser and a card that said: “As we weren’t able to see each other as much as we’d have liked in 2020, we thought we’d send you some mementoes from our special year. We hope the new season will bring us all together again at some point this year and we look forward to seeing you virtually at our launch on March 2.”

  1. Class act that Toto, indicator of how much he brings to the party. Shame there couldn’t be something a little more personal from LH.

    1. Mercedes have always been a class act. I was fortunate enough to have a couple of Saturdays in their hospitality unit at the British GP at Silverstone 20+ years ago overlooking the old start/finish line. The contrast between ourselves and the Renault unit next door was huge. We had half the people, so not crammed, and the food was much better. So much so that the Renault folks were asking if we could pass any spare along.

    1. WJ the F1 Fan says: Joe, who sent you the plumbing work I see in the upper right of the image?
WJ, I’m curious what that is too. Joe, what is it, is there a story behind it?
      Thanks, build.

      1. It’s a desk lap made from plumbing parts that I bought in a market in Bordeaux because it was interesting and original.

  2. A classy team with an eye on the small things in life that can make a big difference.

    It is well deserved.

  3. Nice assortment of swag. Only thing missing is a voucher for a Mercedes factory simulator session.

  4. That’s pretty classy. It’s a nice touch. It’s tough for all. Everyone has COVID fatigue, at a minimum most are tired of the hassle and some have had a rougher time of it. Good of Mercedes F1 to make the gesture to their list of contacts. Thank you for sharing the story. Did other F1 teams make a similar gesture?
