Overtaking…

A member of the McLaren team, who had best remain nameless, has sent me a movie which he believes should be shown to Sebastian Vettel, to help him understand how to overtake, without crashing into the people in front of him. I believe that in England this is called a joke, lest any Vettel fans get hot under their collar about the victimisation of St Sebastian.

  1. Better not show that to the ” Princess ” or he will be trying it.
Actually, I think St. Sebastian has been drinking too much of the Classic Red Bull.

  2. dont let Bernie see this, he may prefer it to the idea of ‘short cuts’ on circuits.. actually Vettel might be better at it if there where ramps on some of the tracks .. just a thought.

  3. Ha ha ha – that is so funny, but maybe it is Adrian Newey who should be looking so he can see the flex in the bits at the extremities and the lack of flex in the underbody!!!

  4. Yes, in this case Red Bull didn’t give Seb wings! Either that or they were too flexible to lift him of the ground… 🙂

  5. Michael.
It’s a good thing Vettel wasn’t racing in Senna’s time. He’d have been clocked

” DECKED ” would be more like it ….

  6. If we can get an F-duct (perhaps a Pseudo-airflow Inversion G-duct System aka P.I.G.S.) equivalent which inverts the effects of the wings (lift instead of downforce) then we might get a bit of this type of action. Of course Red Bull will come up with a system which convert the exhaust gases going through the diffuser into a jet, and there will be a complaint that the wings flex up too far and McLaren will be complaining about the flapping wing cars. This will of course mean that PIGS do fly.

  7. It may be time for Paul Tracy of IRL to pass the Baton to Vettel, the infamous “Captain Crunch” (poison cereal they feed to kids but a good moniker!) in North American circles has found a worthy successor.

He is no doubt a future world champion but this is the price you pay when teams afraid of losing the next “super talent” take a flyer on them and do their “finishing” on the F1 track, it is not even entertaining when he does a one sided crashout & penalizes another driver like Button or Kubica in Austrailia, both would have continued and made the race alot more interesting.

  8. Thanks for sharing that, Joe. That has got to be the overtaking move of the century! Too bad F1’s rules state that overtaking can only be done on the left or right.

  9. Yeah, a great video. it makes me think with Red Bull now sponsoring so many different sports, not just F1, but Air Races, boat races, WRC, Indycar, Moto GP and Motorcross too, isn’t it high time they went into stock car racing? With Sebastian already under contract they already have their No.1 driver. A perfect solution to get this dangerous kid out of F1 and into something he definitely has a ‘feel’ for…

  10. I am sorry but “victimisation of St Sebastian”?! He can’t overtake a car without trashing into it. Amazing driver but if he is not 1st on the grid at the start he is sodding useless.

  11. joesaward

No, it was not Ron. he is far too busy selling super cars…

Not bad work if you can get it! He looked suave at Pebble Beach working the VIP’s!

  12. Dangerous Kid out of F1! Thats possibly a tad ott! I’m behind Webber all the way for this championship as I think he’s finally showing the calm calculated class of a world champion, & we all know the story between him & Vettel, but to say he needs to be booted out I think is too much.

The guys been in F1 roughly the same time as Hamilton, & he makes the occasional balls up, & Hamilton has got 4 or 5 years extra racing in the Junior formulae.

The thing is, like Hamilton, hes learning how to become a world champion at the front end of the grid in a decent car, so when he makes a balls up, its an often spectacular & important one, where as if he were at the back end, there’d be little notice made.
