A century for GP+

GrandPrix+ is an e-magazine, delivered in PDF format. It has been produced just a few hours after every Grand Prix since the spring of 2007 when it was launched by Joe Saward and David Tremayne. It won the Newspress New Media Award that year for innovation. Subscriptions are for a calendar year but for £25 one gets not only 21 magazines (in 2010) but also access to the archive, which now amounts to 75 issues in total, which can be downloaded to create your own personal F1 archive. The seasonal review of 2010 has just been published. It is our first issue to include more than 100 pages, topping out at 102, as we look back at an exceptional season of Formula 1 racing. If you have a relative who likes F1 and are struggling to find a Christmas present or are a fan looking ahead to next year, why not sign up now for 2011? 1. Whenever I read century, I am always reminded of “Boycott made the century” as said by Major Gowen in Fawlty Towers, one of my favorite TV series.

What surprises me most about Fawlty Towers today is that Seb Vettel is apparently is a fan of it, which I find rather surprising, given his age and the fact it was not shown on German TV that often (twice in the 70s and 80s of the last centurty 😉 ), so is known how he came about to know about it?

  2. Signing up again for next year right now.

  3. Cabby,

Right laughing at what you just wrote.

I can see it in media training:

“Here you go Seb, “The Germans”.

Now, it was an Austrian team, who did this????!!

I had a German friend, who was spat at (verbally, don’t recall, wasn’t there, reported as a bit of a shock, it was the meaning) by an older person in Vienna.

    This was recently.

I’m sorry to say I made her watch the same episode. Decent Gal, she laughed hard. But also got rid of me!

Are GP+ adverts officially the Off Topic thread?

Don’t take advertising, Joe. I mean hook, line. And I don’t associate you mentioning what you do with advertising, as we know it. It’s my game, but you don’t need it. Anyhow, you know that. Just wanted to apologise for using the “advert” word.

    1. John,

If everyone who reads the blog bought the magazine then I would not need to advertise! Right now we need to build up the GP+ subscriber base and a nice free blog with lots of good stuff is designed to pull in people who should then be interested in the GP+ product, which is great value for money. If people want the good stuff about F1, but will not spend £25 for the magazine then they have to put up with a few adverts on the blog. I think that is a reasonable quid pro quo…

  4. Having just renewed my subscription, I am horrified to see that the cost appears to be exactly the same as it was three years ago – when there were hardly any races, hotels and air tickets were basically free, and volcanoes kept their mouths shut. How can you possibly justify this? What a rip-off! You and your GP+ colleagues are stealing from yourselves.

As I get a lot of pleasure from the blog as well, I have managed to calm myself down by clicking on the “Donations” button on this site. If anyone else feels as I do I hope they will do the same.

Thank you for entertaining and informing us – have a great Christmas.

    Sam

  5. I have been a subscriber since the 3rd or 4th issue and have enjoyed it every year. Keep up the great work. I will be re-upping shortly. I loved the photo of Ferrari 1-2 in the last issue, had me laughing.

  6. Alright Joe, you’ve beaten me into submission, I’ll buy it! Proof the blog and the ads work if ever you needed it!

  7. i have an amazon voucher i need to spend. if you stick it on amazon, then i will buy it. With all the amazon vouchers ppl will get for xmas, this could be a good route to market for you.

    What do you think joe?

  8. Joe

I will be a new subscriber (so not ordering as a gift for anybody). If I pay now, will I be subscribing to 2010 or 2011? Wondering if I should wait until the calendar flips over to the new year…

I also just got your Grand Prix Saboteurs book to read on my long (longest some would say 🙂 ) flight from San Francisco to Singapore. Any chance your newest book will be available in the Kindle format soon?

Put me down as another person subscribing based on reading this blog (which I found out about from sidepodcast).

  9. I became a GP+ subscriber in 2010 via the blog, so it’s working (at least in my case)!

I will be re-subscribing for 2011. It’s a great magazine, and is perfect to read on an iPad.

  10. Subscribed yesterday! Very much look forward to your ’11 season preview, but pls keep us alive with interesting F1 news until then, through this great blog!
Merry Christmas from sunny South Africa!

  11. Joe

I’ll be subscribing again. My Grand Prix Atlas, Grand Prix Saboteurs and The Man Who Caught Crippen turned up yesterday. Already halfway into GP Saboteurs and loving it. On a side note can I still by Brock & Moffat On The Way to Spa? A topic very close to my Aussie heart.

Thanks for a great year. Looking forward to the next.

    Merry Christmas.

    1. Scott,

Blimey, you’d have to look in secondhand stores for that one. It is usually sold under the name Barry Naismith as the author. He was the editor of the book and got all the credit. I wrote most of the book…

  12. Joe,

sorry not replying properly to you, it’s been silly with me for a few days.

Is there any way to send you a cheque?

I want a few copies, to pass out.

I’ll write separately, it can wait until the New Year.

All best wishes to everyone, may it always be better.

    yours,

    – john

  13. oh, blast,

forgot you’re primarily in a different banking system.

I don’t currently have a bank there, so this would be very inefficient.

I’m yet to try it out in any useful way, but this might be of interest to you: http://www.caxtonfx.com/business/online_payment.asp

These thing always have to be looked into hard, but it looks serious.

    So much to do.

Sorry, everyone else, for diverting the discussion.

  14. John:

I’ve used an individual caxtonfx card for some years for cash machines and purchases in euros, and I heartily recommend that aspect of caxtonfx. Simplicity itself to top up – it’s a pre-load, not a credit card – and excellent exchange rates.

The online payment system, as I read it, is for the other end, the traders, but should be equally good.

    Usual disclaimers.
