Red flag for Perez crash

Sergio Perez had a sizeable accident at the chicane with two and half minutes to go in the qualifying session at Monaco. The Mexican lost control of his car over the bumps, as several drivers have in the course of the weekend and went sideways into the barriers at the chicane. The accident was similar is style to the crash in 1994 which injured Karl Wendlinger, although the protection at the point has been increased substantially with air-filled barriers, to help to absorb the energy of an out-of-control car. Medical crews have extracted Perez from the car and he is on his way to hospital, after only 11 minutes in the car.
