Vettel on pole. Button second

Sebastian Vettel took pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix, assisted somewhat by a major accident which befell Sergio Perez, when he lost control of his Sauber on the bumps before the chicane. The session was stopped while Perez was helped by rescue crews, but no-one improved in the last two minutes. The order is Vettel, Button, Webber, Alonso, Schumacher, Massa, Hamilton, Rosberg, Maldonado and Perez.

  1. Joe,

By ‘assisted somewhat’, do you mean ‘assisted completely’?

All a bit of a let down, really.

  2. ‘Quick Nick’was anything but…what a waste of a decent car…should have put the Hulk in it
Great effort by Pastor to get in the top ten

  3. Disappointing to see Hamilton starting behind both Schumy and Massa, I actually had hopes he’d find the front row today.

Passing those two during the race on this track will be nigh on impossible, unless the KERS/DRS work as advertised, or they manage a pit stop pass.

Looks like another Vettel/Red Bull win.

  4. Why didn’t Ferrari get penalized for interfering with Hamilton’s lap? They clearly sent Massa out at the perfect time to block Hamilton.

  5. the strategy of McLaren , judging by the Q3 tyre usage looked to be 1 stop for button and 2 for hamilton

now that hamilton is back in 9th with button on the front row , the only thing that looks likely to work for hamilton is to adopt button’s strategy …question is , can he drive in that manner ?

and will they decide to change button as well ?

I think several of the top 6 were either on flying laps (or about to start one) so SP’s accident spoilt their chance to put in a good lap time. SV had already posted a decent lap before and was therefore not hindered by the session stoppage.

  7. RichyS,

You cannot assume Vettel would not have gotten pole.

This makes Lewis 0 for 5 in F1 poles at Monaco.

Should be an exciting race tomorrow. Glad Perez is OK.
