Francisco Camps, the boss of the Generalitat de Valencia, the organisation that funds the European Grand Prix in Valencia, has resigned after being indicted on alleged bribery charges.
Camps was a key player in getting the event established in Valencia and his disappearance could be a severe blow to the race. The region has serious financial problems and his successor may not be as keen to fund the racing. He has been the head of the local government since 2003 but has stood down so as not to hurt his Popular Party in the forthcoming general election in Spain.
He and three other government officials allegedly received gifts, in return for lucrative contracts. The investigations have been going on for some years.
Camps denies any wrongdoing.
What great news for F1, good riddance Dullencia.
Is anyone related to F1 has to deal with either justice or public humiliation sometime in his life ?
Why’s he deny any wrongdoing if he’s resigned? Fishy…
To be frank if the Valencia GP was axed it wouldn’t be the end of the world . One of the dullest races on the current calendar.
No more Valencia GP ? Good new !
Given the recent news in Germany, might these lucrative contracts and gifts include the F1 contract?
