Out now – the GP+ Seasonal Review

Screen Shot 2012-12-21 at 13.24.51

GP+ was the first electronic magazine in Formula 1 and is still going strong after five seasons. The seasonal review is a look back at the 2012 with some forthright – and controversial – opinions and some wonderful photography. GP+ is produced by professional F1 reporters and photographers, with access to the stars and the movers and shakers of F1, so we have the inside line.

In the final issue of the year, we bring you

… what Formula 1 really costs

… the number of espressos served by Pirelli

… what David Tremayne did on his summer holiday

… Joe Saward eavesdropping in a pub

… where F1 is going in the future

If you are not a subscriber and want to be, you can now sign up for 2013, which will give you the magazines from 2012 completely free of charge – all of them downloadable in PDF format to your computers, your tablet or you iPad.

  1. Joe, fantastic job, just 3 and a half hours after the race. I think I’ll keep the last two races on my TV recorder. Bernie must have had a hand in writing the script for them. Just one question, we know Alonso is good but how is he going to drive both a Ferrari and Williams next year? Your list in “who goes where” contains the typo. Sorry for being pedantic. Your coverage is the best and Grandpix + a fantastic publication. I guess it’s been a long year, 20 races. I can recall a time when Bernie said “no more than 16 races”, mmm what happened there, I guess money talks. You’re obviously looking forward to a well deserved rest at the end of a long season. Thanks for all your hard work this year.

  2. Well done to Joe, David and Peter for your brilliant and rapid coverage of an enthralling season.

    Best regards,

    Bruce

  3. Joe, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a sub, in time for the end of season review. In your Asides you talk about the subscription lasting a tear, but my email mentions it begin for the 2012 calendar year. Can you just confirm that I have 12 months? Many thanks.

Loved my first issue by the way, well worth it.

    1. My understanding is that the sub lasts tell the 31st of December, no matter when in the year it is purchased. You can download all the back copies from this year and the year before, but come the 1st of Jan you will need to resubscribe.

        1. Definitely worth it, and if you pay the extra for the previous years as well, you have an excellent record of the races, plus Joe’s insights and additional material to read through.

I’ve got them all on my laptop, ready for the next long trip on the big bird.

  4. Joe, that end of the season school photo of the drivers – is there some sort of rule for how they’re positioned or is it just a case of someone handpicking the people at the front and everyone else standing wherever they like?

Schumacher’s presence on the front row seems to kill any hypothesis about points rankings and yet someone really should have told Webber to stand at the back to avoid blocking out the chap behind him (I’ve not got the photo to hand right now, hence my ambiguity).

I presume you’re taking something of a break for a bit, so enjoy a good bit of relaxation. You’ve earned it.

    1. I think for this particular photo, the front row feature the six world champions – Button, Kimi, Alonso, Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton. The back row is made up of the final four teams in the constructors championship, the ordering of the middle is anyones guess!

  5. The feed we received here in the U.S. showed very little of HOW Seb got from last to 7th the first time around.I would of thought that the directors would have a camera on him as he worked his way through the pack.

A great race and result. Maybe The Bernard’s wacky notion of installing sprinkler systems at all tracks to spice up the show isn’t so wacky after all!

    1. Was the same here in the UK. I just think that the director was (understandably) overwhelmed with all the incidents that were going on.

      1. Frantic wasn’t it? It took me until lap 40 to realise that I’d not seen Maldonado crash into anyone (surprising, as we can all agree) but he retired in total anonymity early on.

        1. At least he managed to show some of the race between shots of Alonso’s girlfriend, which is more than he managed in qualifying.

          1. She was extremely attractive. I particularly liked the shot of her just after Vettel crashed. You could see the gears turning in her head, like: “OMG, could this really be happening?”

Apparently not. And it’s a black day for the Tifosi.

    2. Apparently he overtook on one occasion under flashing yellows, just when we were seeing the playback of the start. Not many saw it unless they were watching the cockpit feed.

All seeing stewards also missed it???
