Problems for Lotus

There are problems with the Lotus of Romain Grosjean, which qualified third for the Hungarian GP. It seems that during the post-qualifying technical inspection the front wing of the Lotus did not comply with the Technical Regulations as the front floor deflected vertically more than the 5mm that is allowed when load was applied to it at that point. The Stewards are now deciding what to do.

The test was also applied to the cars of Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.

The test involves 200kgs (2000 Newtons) being applied at three different points along the centre line of the car and 100mm on either side of it.

  1. That would be a terrible blow for the lotuses, esp grosjean who looked so good today. Was feeling happy for the kid to regain a bit of form. Lets hope that the cars pass scrutineering.

  2. I assume Romain Grosjean will lose some grid positions as a penalty, and Ferrari will most likely benefit putting Alonso on the 2nd row. James Allison came from Lotus and went to which team? One assumes his garden looks wonderful. I know I am cynical old fart, just saying…

  3. Oh dear that is an exclusion or back of the grid job.

It sounds more like the bendy floor test as in Tech Regs 3.17.5

Shame, when the lad had shown a decent turn of speed. to have it whipped away from him, especially when it’s nothing to do with him.

    1. Well he was lucky. But that alone is a good reason to stay off the kerbs. Kimi was seen going completely off track over a good selection of very rough looking stones outside the kerbing. Difficult to tell where it was in the few seconds the BBC is allowed to show, but it could easily have ground a couple of mills off the floor.
