Teams to cut costs on winter catering

The Formula 1 teams continue to look for new ways to save money and are currently in the process of a tender for some to provide catering at four winter tests. The aim is to avoid having to send their own crews and share the cost of the hospitality. The tests will all be in February and will take between Feb 1-3, 10-13, 16-19 and 25-28. It is likely that these will all be in Spain or Portugal.

  1. A little bit off topic but I would be interested in a story one day about what an F1 driver actually eats in a week. These drivers were bone thin this year. Maybe one of the drivers fitness coachs could describe what they eat and how many calories they take in.

  2. Thats a story the BBC would do, just so they can qualify the salaries…. and its a nice kitten in a tree story.

  3. We (being me and the lads) went to Brands for the 85 European Grand Prix with 96 cans of Hemling and a catering pack of 128 very dodgy beefburgers!

It has become known as the f*****g Hemling trip!

Naturally I shall be tendering for the F1 catering contract.

  4. I’m not busy on those dates, my grill has wheels, I have a passport and I make a pretty mean cheeseburger… what’s the phone number? These whippersnapper drivers do eat cheeseburgers, right?

  5. Hi Joe,

Saving catering costs! Once again they are looking at the small dollar stuff….

Each time they talk about reducing costs, I find myself thinking about the number of guys they have for each pit stop. I read somewhere that they have up to 26 people working on the car! Without refuelling, all you only really need is 1 guy per wheel, 2 jack men, and a lollypop man. This would also be a really ‘visibly’ way to show fans that they are serious about reducing costs.

    Simon

  6. Those guys do have other jobs justifying their presence at the track…mechanics, truckies, and so on.
